How to Install Computer Wizardry software

When you download a package from this web site, it's provided in the form of a self-extracting archive (sometimes called an SFX archive). This means that the archive extracts by itself, without the need for any special software.

An archive is a collection of files which are contained within a single file. Usually, this single-file archive is also compressed so the size of the archive is smaller than the total size of files contained in the archive.

Self-extracting archives end with ".EXE" and are used just like any other programme. For example, to unpack the archive YAK10.EXE you would type "YAK10" at a DOS prompt. To extract WVH26Q you type "WVH26Q" at a DOS prompt.

Example

Let's say you have downloaded the file WVH26Q.EXE and you want to install it. First you need to create a directory for it (which you may already have if you are using an older version of the package). Second you extract the archive. So...

  • Enter MD \WVH to create a WVH directory. If you already have a directory with an older version of the software you can skip this step.
  • Enter CD \WVH to change directory to \WVH.
  • Enter \downloadpath\WVH26Q at a DOS prompt to extract the archive. Replace the \downloadpath\ with the name of the directory in which you stored the downloaded file. For example, if you put all of your downloaded files in a directory called "c:\download" then you would enter c:\download\wvh28 to extract WVH version 2.8.
